Lira Regional Referral Hospital
Lira RRH serves nine districts and Lira City in the Lango sub-region with a catchment population of approximately 2.5 million people. It has a 401-bed capacity and employs 328 staff directly hired by the GOU with 78% of the 418 civil service approved positions filled and currently the staffing level for USAID G2G LRRH Activity is filled to 98% with 167 staff, 82 technical Staff and 85 volunteers/ Community Health Workers.
LRRH is a designated internship center in which graduates of Ugandan medical schools can complete one year of supervised internship under various disciplines that exist in the hospital. The hospital also acts as a nursing / midwifery training institution.
Lango sub-region has a population of over 2.5 million people. approximately 49% female and 51% male, and currently consists of Lira city and nine districts: Alebtong, Amolatar, Apac, Dokolo, Kole, Kwania, Lira, Otuke and Oyam. Up to 49% of the population is estimated to be younger than 14 years of age. About 20% of the regional population (491,000) live in Lira district (236,300 are male and 254,700 are female).
