Lira Regional Referral Hospital Security team working closely with the Uganda Police Force on Thursday 26th February, 2026 , at around 1000 hours, arrested a one Okello Moses from the female surgical ward for defrauding shillings 200.000 from a patient’s caregiver, in exchange for quick medical attention and surgery.
Impersonating as a Medical Officer working at the Hospital, Okello hoodwinked the unsuspecting caregiver and solicited for a total of shillings 500,000 which he says would facilitate a “quick medical procedure”.
The suspect reportedly insisted that he is given a deposit of shillings 200,000 and remaining balance paid later.
The caregiver reported the matter to our security team who alerted the Police leading to his arrest immediately after receiving the money.
The case has been registered at Lira City Central Police Station under reference *32/26/02/2026* , with the case of theft of cash and impersonation preferred against him. We shall collaborate with the Police and render all necessary support to ensure that justice is served.
The Management would like to inform the public that within the month of February , 2026, we have arrested more than 5 people under similar circumstances.
Our security is on 24 hour alert aided by CCTV surveillance to ensure safety of our dear patients, hospital assets and visitors.
